  • Essay / The disadvantage of using English to teach mathematics...

Education is very important for all countries including Malaysia. Our country takes education seriously to produce a society capable of developing all aspects of our countries. Along with the development of ICT, our government intends to create citizens with good English skills. To achieve this, a new education policy called PPSMI was introduced in the hope that English could be further integrated into education. Although this new policy is good, but as we can see, the lack of PPSMI has negated all the benefits of PPSMI. Many people disagree with the implementation of PPSMI. There are disadvantages to using the English language to teach mathematics and science: it impacts the Malaysian language, reduces student achievement, and significantly increases education costs. The PPSMI was enshrined as a policy decision of the Malaysian government following the Special Cabinet Meeting on 19 July 2002 under the administration of the Prime Minister of Malaysia at-4, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamed. By the Ministry of Education Malaysia, it was implemented gradually from the 2003 school session, with the first one targeting all students in the first year of primary school and grades 1 and 6 from primary to secondary. The PPSMI is fully implemented in 2007 for the secondary level, while the primary level took place in 2008 (http://www.bharian.com.my/current_News/BH/Thursday/sastera/200814094559/ Article/index_html ). According to the Ministry of Education Malaysia, the rational transition of language teaching and learning of science and mathematics from Malay to English is a concern regarding government policy on human resource development to achieve the status of a developed nation and the school's early preparation to be competitive in the era. of globalization....... middle of article ......cooperation with private higher education institutions to use the services of TesL Education students to conduct practical training at school.En Conclusion, using English to teach math and science in English is a good way to ensure that the student can master the language, but there are still other ways that we can use to ensure that our student can master the language. As a result, the Prime Minister of Education canceled the PPSMI policy in 2012, even though there were more benefits than benefits. It is the best and most equitable way for all students in urban and rural schools when using the Malay language to teach mathematics and science. The repeal of this policy can sensitize the government to review the actions that need to be taken for current and future generations in order to produce youth capable of shaping the future of the country..
