    This poem interested me because of the generic nature of the title. After doing a little research on who Adrienne Rich was, I discovered that she was an influential poet and feminist. This discovery opened up a new perspective for her on how she felt about women being treated in society. After reading this poem, I have the strong feeling that Adrienne Rich is talking more about women's society than her sisters. Rich talks about his first sister saying that she is a transparent woman and that all her nerves are visible. This shows how she's not afraid to show him. She then explains about the second sister, who has a seam over her heart, and it will never heal. I believe it has something to do with someone breaking up with her. I believe this because a heart can only be broken when someone it loves is no longer. Finally, the third sister is torn at her stockings, but she is still beautiful. This shows that the woman is healing through her broken heart. Since Adrienne Rich was a feminist, it would be more effective to have an audience of people to whom she could explain that no one can bring a woman down forever and that they will always come back strong.
