  • Essay / Ethical leadership versus written code of ethics

Ethics, less known to us as moral philosophy, is an affiliation of philosophy that speaks to issues of morality, concepts such as crime and justice , good and evil go hand in hand with morality. Ethics play a major role in society and it is how people behave in certain situations. Over the years, it has been brought to light through many situations. In this essay, I will discuss whether a written code of ethics combined with ethics training is more effective than strong ethical leadership and vice versa. In an organization, ethics is supposed to set standards for the right thing to do in conduct and decision-making. however, this is not always the case. Over the years, various scandals have shown that companies and especially the people who run them are not at all ethical and only seek to maximize profits. Over the years, economic analysts have suggested that the way to avoid such incidents is either to have a code of ethics accompanied by ethics training or through strong ethical leadership. A code of ethics is written to help members of an organization behave in an acceptable manner. manner within their given organization. At the same time, a code of ethics can help improve the popularity of the company because it will be seen more favorably in the eyes of the public and of course the people who work there. Additionally, it will increase trust within an organization by showing competitors and the public that they are committed to following ethical guidelines. Firstly, a code of ethics is similar to the ACAS code of practice which is used within government, however a code of ethics applies strictly to the settings of an organization or...... middle of paper..... .ng to improve their company's reputation by being ethically impeccable.
