The qualities that make a good leader are as varied as the people who occupy leadership roles. Some leaders are not extremely dynamic but get the best out of people, while others seem too carefree to be taken seriously. So what makes leaders who they are? A personal leadership philosophy is that distinctive trait that every leader possesses. These leadership characteristics and behaviors will be explored in the following text, along with what I believe to be the best path forward as I work to develop my own personal philosophy of leadership. A personal philosophy is essentially how someone perceives the world. . Every person has a different worldview, with culture and upbringing determining how people think and act. A personal leadership philosophy is about taking that worldview and applying it to leadership. Since leadership is about getting the best out of people; A leadership philosophy would be a leader's plan to get the most out of the people he leads. Personal leadership philosophies are unique to each individual, just as every person in the world is unique. A personal leadership philosophy is like a road map, without which leaders would drift aimlessly, without any sense of direction. If a leader lacks a sense of direction, it would be impossible for an organization to follow them anywhere simply because it would be impossible to set goals and provide direction without having a leadership philosophy. I went many years without a plan and there is no doubt that it had a negative impact on my life. Recently, I formulated goals and determined who I am, what I do best, and how to use my strengths to get my life in order. A leader must be aware of their strengths and weaknesses and then develop a philosophy that will best complement their personality traits and strengths as a person. Leaders must have established their personal philosophy before becoming a leader, because once you are in a leadership position, it is time to lead others, not to determine which philosophy would be best to use to lead.
