Essay / Lack of diversity in the media - 1155
LACK OF DIVERSITY IN THE MEDIABeauty is in the eye of the beholder, but what is considered beautiful by some is not considered beauty when talking about diversity within the media. Society is based on critical judgment of the body, shape and/or racial/ethnic origin of characters. In the media, society only sees one type focused solely on the perfection of the mind; However, in the United States, it is very typical in that the media lacks ethnic representation, cultural identity, and gender inequality. There is no ethnic representation in the media world and the media has been trained to believe that ethnic groups have no value. African American and Hispanic writers are a minority group in terms of social group. According to journalist Prince and TV critic Deggans, "CNN let go one of its most prominent anchors of color, Soledad O'Brien, and replaced her with a white man, Chris Cuomo." Wolf Blitzer gave up one of his hours to another white man, Tapper. Although Zucker has met with both the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists to try to address their concerns, there have been no overt signs from CNN that she would attract other presenters of color” (Mirkinson p.1) Ethnicity and appearance have become a huge issue in the media because they attempt to use it as a power to control creativity and refrain from truth in the media. According to journalist Nishijima, A refers to the Oscars and explains that it is very absurd that the media is slowly moving towards a lack of diversity. This was recognized when watching the Oscars and seeing that the nominees were overwhelmingly white. Nishijima quotes “Boone Isaacs states...... middle of paper ...... is a social problem. The public response, through negative fashion, saying that only a particular gender or ethnic group is disfigured. In the United States, media diversity has a great effect on a person and causes misconceptions about one individual's point of view and another individual. A global solution to the lack of diversity could be to broadcast the problem to a wider audience; however, due to a lack of media diversity solutions, they have not yet been implemented. My choice to address the lack of diversity in the media is to fully understand these “disfigured” communities. The only way to be diverse is to end stereotypical ideas about a person's ethnicity or gender, is to accept the fact that people have different ethnic backgrounds and present as different shapes, colors and sizes, and that society should not discriminate against these. minority groups.
