Some say they trust their government and wouldn't change being monitored, while others say the invasion of their privacy is unconstitutional and that as a society living under surveillance, Americans must reform the ECPA and ask Congress to pass it. Freedom Act. Snowden's leaks provided people with important information proving that the NSA was still collecting and storing massive amounts of data on billions of innocent American citizens without a warrant or probable cause to help protect people from enemies foreign and domestic. This is probably one of the largest leaks in the history of government information. Most societies already live under constant surveillance outside their homes. Cameras monitor people almost everywhere they go. The schools, the shopping centers and the streets they walk and drive on. In the technological age, while living under surveillance, it is difficult for a citizen to obtain any form of privacy. Privacy is what a person does thinking that no one other than him or her is watching or listening, but a moment considered private is known as an illusion. In the United States, privacy and liberty are an important part of the rights of the people, since the United States is founded on a democracy that is liberty, equality, and justice for all. Being unknowingly monitored to this extent leaves privacy and freedom in the dust. “In a democracy, the people are sovereign – they constitute the highest form of political authority” (Diamond, 2004).
