  • Essay / The Call of the Wild by Jack London - 1159

The Call of the Wild by Jack LondonThe title of the book is "The Call of the Wild" and was written by Jack London in 1903. He was the son of an Irishman. -American astrologer and his mother was Flora Wellman, the odd one out of a wealthy family. They lived a life of poverty in Pennsylvania. Jack read widely and, at the age of fifteen, left home and traveled across North America as a drifter. Accused of vagrancy, he spent 30 days in prison. After receiving his education, he managed to get into a university, before being caught up in the Klondike River gold rush in northern Canada in 1896. On his return, he began to write, but he drank a lot and ended up committing suicide. a moving story about how a St. Bernard and ScotchShepherd crossbreed dog called Buck escapes from captivity to become the proud leader of a pack of wolves. Buck was born a privileged, dignified dog with a loving family, but was taken from his warm Southern California home and shipped to the cold reaches of Alaska during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. After been mistreated by numerous owners, he quickly learns that the only rule in this hostile environment is "the law of the club and the fang", very different from the rules of a civilized society. After losing one of his peers, he quickly realizes that he is not only fighting to prove himself, but also to survive. Call of the Wild uses anthropomorphism which shows how animals can act and think in exactly the same way as humans. Buck sled team is a part of all human roles, such as the leader, the quiet one, the one desperate to fit in, and the one desperate to prove himself...... middle of paper.. .... likewise, and that sometimes animals can be more civilized than species endowed with so-called "higher intelligence". However, the animals could also be much more barbaric than you might imagine. We can also learn that societies can form in any group of animals; all you need is someone to control how things are done. Dogs have taken on many human roles and have acted, in some ways, in exactly the same way as humans in the same role. The main character of the story, a crossbreed named Buck, represents the calm character whose only goal is to prove himself and succeed in the inhospitable environment of Alaska. We may position ourselves as humans as the most important creatures on this planet, but this book proves that there really is no greater species, we can all act the same way and we don't. we all have one true goal.!!
