Essay / The American in the 1990s - 752
The 1990s era was an explosive period in American history, both figuratively and literally. In the 90s there was an extreme variety of different failures and also technological advances. As a nation, we have experienced new advances in space travel, our military, and our way of life, preparing us for the turn of the century. As a country, we didn't know what the new millennium would bring, but we were ready. But what changed America most was our creativity, the fear we had, and our militaristic ways. In the 90s, the concept of music saw a huge explosion compared to previous years, although there were many more acts of creativity. Mainly, music has played a huge role in society compared to other decades. The most famous bands from this era were Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime and Rage Against the Machine, to name a few. These groups most defiantly showcased the creativity that America possessed, as evidenced by the amount of 90s music still widely available. Another concept of creativity was fashion. The fact that these clothes are spread across the country sets America apart in a provocative way. Finally, the pop culture of this era also showed the creativity of our nations. It was Pokémon that stood out the most from everything else. The production of millions of “baseball cards” with animated animals caused a sensation among children and teenagers across the country. Apart from the happiness brought...... middle of paper ...... it is true that America used its new advanced militaristic methods during the NATO bombings in Yugoslavia. This happened during the Kosovo War and showed the significant impact America could have in a war. The late 1990s saw a huge expansion of our country's militaristic methods, which will continue to benefit future generations. Our nation has evolved for a long time with its new creativity, its fear and its new militaristic methods. Although every generation since the 1900s has come to play a role in how America is sculpted, the '90s were the final push into the new century. The final effort that was made as a nation was clearly beneficial to America and the rest of the world as well. Today, it has been dramatically affected by the cultural changes of the 1990s and still feels the effects of the three most significant points of that era..
