Carpooling is an effective option for campuses looking to reduce parking demand and traffic congestion, as well as the carbon footprint of transportation and parking infrastructure. Studies have shown that a single Zipcar can replace up to 15 personal vehicles, while increasing the use of public transportation, walking and cycling (Zipcar, 2014). By operating Zipcar near universities, ride sharing increases transportation options and allows freedom for students least likely to purchase and own a car. Universities have many students from all over the world and the introduction of Zipcar ridesharing will help students avoid overspending on things like rising fuel prices and the high cost of vehicle taxes.
