Although nursing is universally practiced, not all nurses' values and morals are the same. Nurses and nursing students are typically placed in situations where they must operate within an ethical structure that is unfamiliar to their cultural standards or those of the patients they care for. The most important values and morals of nurses are based on human dignity and kindness. Human dignity is the main component that branches out to other values related to concern for health and well-being. Trust, integrity, autonomy and privacy are one of the many sub-values of human dignity. It is important for nurses to respect and understand the patient's culture and beliefs without being judgmental or confrontational. The well-being of the patient is the priority and therefore nurses must focus first on building the trust of patients by responding to their needs and exercising caution.
