    Some of the reasons for the increasing cost of healthcare are: payments to third parties; imperfect market; technological growth, increase in the number of elderly people; the current medical model of health care delivery; multi-payer system and administrative costs; defensive medicine. One societal issue that healthcare organizations must address is the high cost of healthcare. The high cost of health care is the reason for the growing burden on many Americans. A survey was done by the Henry Kaiser Family Foundation and found that 58% of people were not seeking the treatment they needed due to rising health care costs (Huff/Post50, 2012). Healthcare organizations can help address this problem by supporting their community through social support, education about preventative benefits, health promotion, health management, advice and person-centered planning. The second societal issue is the availability of health care. Disparities in access to health care remain a problem in America. The health care organization can help community members through education and behavioral health care. According to Wyland (2014), chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and substance use disorders are behaviorally based and require recurrent rather than acute intervention to be successfully treated. . Educational and community programs play an important role in preventing illness and injury, improving health and quality of life. Everyone has personal responsibility for their own health through active participation, education, and lifestyle change (Harkness and DeMarco, 2016). The third issue is health care equity. The reason for gaps in quality of care is due to the inability of healthcare organizations to integrate improvement measures into the care process (Mayberry, Nicewander, Qin, & Ballard, 2006).
