The involvement of religion in public schools is distracting and unnecessary. The suppression of religion, except for educational purposes, is essential to providing a stable and effective learning environment for every student. Without religion, students might have a better chance of succeeding in class. Only school board officials and members of Congress can completely remove religion from the public school system. It is up to members of Congress to step up and pass laws banning unnecessary displays of religion in public schools. Some people are opposed to banning religion in schools. Some believe banning religion infringes on the First Amendment rights of school teachers. Others believe it is morally wrong to suppress religion. Most of these people do not see the negative role that religion can play in the classroom. There are many harmful effects of allowing or not allowing prayer in public schools.
