Essay / CHILDREN ARE ATTACKED! - 892
The children are being attacked! But this attack does not come from terrorists inside or outside the borders. This does not come from disturbed or mentally unstable people in a community. This attack comes from our own American popular culture. This assault is omnipresent, intense and relentless, even disguised; most parents can no more sense the harm that pop culture inflicts on their children any more than a fish can sense that its ocean is becoming more and more polluted. In both cases, the attack is slow but steady, seemingly unnoticed. Many seem to have been fooled into believing that popular culture cares about our children, when the truth is the exact opposite. Pop culture only cares about a few things: money, gossip, and who's about to go broke—and it's willing to say and do anything to make more money, to get more gossip and to get more information. When the first generation of Americans was growing up, pop culture was doing well: they had a handful of television and radio stations regulated in the "public interest" and offered a variety of mostly positive programming. Today, children have hundreds of television and radio channels offering entertainment celebrating greed, blatant sexuality and violence, the Internet, video games, cell phones, and often inappropriate celebrities on social networks. social media and magazines full of scandals and gossip on the newsstands. . Pop culture's attack on society is obvious, and everyone should be aware of its influence. But how can people achieve this if they don't know how to identify it? Popular culture, by definition, is “a contemporary way of life that is generally accepted by a large population.” However, its definition is more common. It's...... middle of paper......! However, the American public has already been brainwashed and is likely completely unaware of the dangers that Hollywood poses to citizens. If all of this is made public, which it is, then the next generation of American teenagers and children will be exposed and influenced by this from birth. This sounds an awful lot like the propaganda exploited to the Hitler Youth during World War II, except that pop culture is always around them, 24/7, especially with the convenience that mobile devices offer. . Soon they will become celebrities thanks to their actions, their addictions and their life choices, which could be totally wrong. They will see how celebrities spend their money – thoughtlessly and consistently – and it will become what they do every time a paycheck is handed to them. They hear the gossip and see the things celebrities do on TV. Children are attacked!
