Essay / Poverty, the stinger - 674
PovertyImagine living on less than two dollars. Two dollars a day can get you a cheeseburger and fries at McDonald's. Two dollars can get you a sandwich at Subway. 2 dollars CANNOT provide the essential nutrients and food a person needs in a day. Many people do not know the true meaning of poverty. Poverty is different in every part of the world you go to. Many people think that poverty only means when a person is very poor. This is true, but it goes in a deeper sense than just “poor.” Poverty is when a person cannot provide for themselves or their family. Absolute poverty is a true definition of poverty used around the world. Absolute poverty is when a person can only live on less than $2 a day. This means that on any given day, people living in absolute poverty only have to spend on average less than $2 per day on everything they do. That means food, water and electricity. Poverty is the cause of 21,000 deaths per day. This represents 7,665,000 people per year, many of whom are children who cannot even find a job to support themselves. Every 4 seconds, a child dies of starvation. It is extremely sad to think that every 4 seconds a public school student is suspended. Poverty in Africa There is more poverty in Africa than anywhere else. This is where most people think poverty occurs. Africa is also a stereotypical poverty situation. About 40% of Africa is poverty-stricken. This is the worst case of poverty ever seen in the entire world. There are many causes of poverty in Africa. The main reason is that the rich in Africa monopolize all the money and resources, which makes a country where there are rich and poor, there are... middle of paper... o have money. These homeless people are generally not dependent on the government and live on the money they receive from panhandling. They live in absolute poverty. Another type of poverty in America is living on welfare. Welfare recipients receive money from the U.S. government to buy food and other necessities of life. These people usually have housing but cannot find work, or do not want to find work because they have many children. This is another much despised type of poverty.BibliographyUnited Nations World Food Program (WFP), . No. Internet. January 30, 2014. . Website. No. Internet. January 30, 2014. . Website Hazlitt, H. .
