In this article, the organizational cultures of Ukrops and Martins Grocery Store. The objectives of this article are to discuss the similarities as well as differences in culture between the two organizations, such as employee/customer satisfaction, policies as well as benefits that each company has offered to its employees. Also in the article, the reason why Martins felt the need to buy out Ukrops will be discussed. The reason this topic was chosen was because the Martins channel as well as the Ukrops channel had specific characteristics/symbols that could be used to define each channel. . The concepts illustrated by the Martins buyout were great examples of the topics we discussed in class. In class, we discussed organizational culture and how it affects an organization. The Martins buyout is a great example of how organizational culture affects an organization. In this case, the dominant culture of Ukrops simply could not compete with that of Martins. Although Ukrops had an exceptional positive culture, this is an example of how national culture had a significant effect on local culture within the Ukrops chain. When Ukrops leaders considered the overall impact of their organization, they made a conscious decision to sell to Martins. Because the organizations rely heavily on foreign markets, Ukrops leaders decided that Martins would be a much better fit for the community. Ukrops and Martins are two companies that differ significantly when it comes to their culture. Ukrops is a company founded by Joseph and Jacquelin Ukrops in 1937.
