  • Essay / The Failure of Common Sense - 773

The Failure of Common SenseHave you ever noticed the common sense labels on devices these days? There are hundreds of examples of people doing stupid things that have forced companies to put ridiculous warning labels on almost every device. Today's world is like being back in elementary school. How? Well, if you remember correctly, if one person in the class did something wrong, everyone would be punished. Today, even as an adult, if a person does something stupid with a device and kills or injures themselves, the company is required to put a warning label on the device. Most products come with a warning label telling you how not to use the item. People have actually sued companies because they misused the product. Our society's lack of common sense can be easily seen by reading any warning label. For example, did you know that you're not supposed to use birthday candles as earplugs or for any other function that involves insertion into a body cavity? Well, you should, because it says it right on the box. You don't have to be a genius to know that you shouldn't use your electric drill as a dental drill, and if you didn't know that, don't worry, it's written on the first page of the manual. You don't even have to worry about being a spoilsport when your kids ask to play in the dishwasher, because the warning label covers it. Need more examples? Motorola was recently featured on FOX News after hearing that some people had tried to dry their phones by putting them in the microwave. Not only did Motorola put a “Do Not Microwave” warning label on their phones, but they also put the same warning label on all of their other products. Why would you even try to put an electrical appliance in the microwave? Common sense can...... middle of paper ...... go lower and that means that at some point no one will have common sense. If no one on Earth had common sense, the world would fall into total anarchy. Crimes would happen every day, deaths would also follow because people would eventually no longer know if it was right or wrong. Do you already think that the rate of people using common sense will increase? I think it's possible if people were just careful and didn't do stupid things like what I mentioned earlier by spilling their coffee on themselves or putting their phone in a microwave. The world simply needs to think about what it is doing and learn to differentiate between right and wrong. If they did, the world could prosper. Always remember that the real world is like school. If you do something stupid enough that they need a label to tell you not to do it, the rest of the world will be punished for your actions..
