The more people are aware and educated about disability, the less society will discourage and discriminate against those who suffer from it. There have been examples of this throughout history. It used to be that women were seen as caregivers and nothing more, they were forced to stay home and take care of the house and the children, and now we have women running for president. As society becomes more accustomed to disability sports, there should follow an increase in accessibility for children with disabilities to learn and play such sports. There is interest in sports for people with disabilities today, but it is still only a fraction of the sports played by able-bodied people. By taking disability sport more seriously, more children will have the opportunity to be part of something bigger than their disability and elite disabled athletes will be able to gain recognition for their hard work.
