Effective College Writing StrategiesWhen asked about effective writing, many people respond that it is the act of putting thoughts together logically. This answer is too narrow because it suggests that effective writing is only about writing code correctly. This also suggests that writing degenerates from thinking, which is not the case. Although the definitions of effective writing have nothing to do with effective writing itself, there are various effective writing points that can be used to achieve effective writing. Simply put, effective writing materials must be planned, organized, revised and properly edited. When writing, the writer should start with pre-writing. This means that the writer has to think and gather the required materials on time. One of the most common mistakes people make in writing is not preparing on time. Failure to plan in time means that the writing will be done in a hurry, and sometimes the writing may lack objectivity (Carey and Fowler, 1986). When the writer has the basic knowledge of the content of the writing, he or she is able to refine ideas and combine them to produce a quality article. For example, an article that references previous research is considered objective because the analysis of the situation will not only be based on the author's point of view alone, but will be supplemented by reputable research. Organization is also important for effective writing. . There would be no point in carrying out proper research without the information being presented in a less organized manner. Effective writing requires that the writer's thoughts, as well as the borrowed information, be presented in a logical and simple manner. This...... middle of paper...... the most common spin styles are APA, MLA, and Chicago (Murray & Hughes, 2008). Sometimes instructors can provide additional instructions beyond the formats. A good writer must be attentive to all these requirements because there are always points allocated for compliance with formats and instructions. In summary, it is clear that effective writing is something that almost anyone can achieve. All it takes is the dedication of the writer. The writer must be objective enough from the beginning. Part of being objective is preparing to write by having all the necessary materials and information in place about the topic being discussed. Organization is a key element of faulty writing. The point should be organized logically and should flow smoothly from start to finish. Finally, you must comply with the required formats.
