Christian conflict in China, despite supposed religious “freedom” “Perhaps the most serious and under-publicized atrocity in the world is the persecution of Christians. (Black). With a population of 1.351 billion, China is the most populous country in the world and is located in East Asia, bordering the Pacific Ocean. China is a "socialist state", used in reference to a state under the control of a party that organizes the economic, social and political relations of the state towards the construction of socialism. There is a lot of religious activity in China, and for years Christians have been persecuted and arrested for gathering together. They often hide from authorities, even though many people believe claims that there is "religious freedom." China's history of Christian conflict and persecution goes back well before Christianity was banned for a century, in the late 17th century. There are many topics to discuss about the history and current state of Christian conflict in China, for example other religions, the history of religious conflicts, and the pre-modern to modern history of China. Not only is the government causing problems. for Christians, but also for other religions. Before the communist revolution, many philosophical systems and religions were in force. Buddhism, a generally accepted religion, came to China from India early in the first century. More than sixty-eight million Chinese still consider themselves Buddhists, even if they do not practice rituals and occasional services as they did centuries ago. There are many other religions like Islam, as well as philosophical/ethical systems like Confucianism, Taoism, and Legalism. Religion is frowned upon by communists...... middle of paper...... who lived their faith. The adversaries of Christians will never disappear, which is why the house and underground churches in China must remain strong alongside believers around the world. “We never pray against our government or invoke curses on it. Instead, we learned that God controls both our own lives and the government under which we live. God has used the Chinese government for his own purposes, shaping and molding his children as he sees fit. Instead of focusing our prayers against any political system, we pray that whatever happens to us, we will please God” (Yun). This was just a brief overview of what Christians have faced, from pre-modern to modern. no one knows if Christianity will be banned for a century like it was in the 17th century, but that hasn't stopped Christians from following Jesus, the Son of God..
